If you're new to marketing, you may have heard the term multi-channel marketing and not fully understood it. I’m here to give you a quick rundown with examples and explain why you should be doing it.
What Is Multi-Channel Marketing?
Multi-channel marketing is a mix of different marketing channels being used at the same time to create an effective marketing campaign. It could be anything from using multiple digital marketing platforms with a mix of direct mail to email marketing with geo-targeting. The mix can be any form of marketing blended with another type of marketing!
The thought of multi-channel marketing is to reach customers at different points of their day. For example, in the morning they could see an email about a promotion you’re having, or a billboard on their way to work, and while at work they are seeing your Facebook ads (when they are on break, of course). By repeatedly seeing your advertisements, your business stays fresh in their mind, making them think about your brand and, hopefully, becoming your customers.
Multi-Channel Marketing Put to Action
One of the most memorable Multi-Channel Marketing examples was the “Chevy Game Time App” presented by GM. This promotion gave users a chance to win one of 20 vehicles during the Super Bowl XLVI.
“Called ‘Chevy Game Time’, the marketing team designed a live second screen experience to distract viewers from competitors’ ads and give them a reason to engage with Chevy for the entire game.” Every player was given a unique license plate and if you saw your plate during the ad, you won a new Chevy vehicle. The results of this campaign were remarkable.
- More than 700,000 app downloads
- 21,337,927 Trivial Plays/Polls
- 4,417,434 Push notifications
It was safe to say this was a success for Chevy and there hasn’t been a campaign this successful since.
Should You Implement Multi-Channel Marketing Next?
Multi-channel marketing is a great way to expand your reach to a larger audience and get the right customers on the right platform. By using multiple platforms, you can increase followers on different avenues which can benefit you in the end. With the increased following, customers become familiar with your brand image and personality, making it easier for you to guide them through the marketing funnel and toward a desired action.
